The National Corvette Homecoming Chairman Joe Pruitt announced that it has added a new high honor Corvette Certification to accompany its yearly gathering. The Certification appropriately named Sans Pareil, will feature a custom award and other items to designate those Corvettes and owners who receive the privilege of obtaining the judges’ highest marks.

Sans Pareil is designed to rival the current Top Corvette Certifications and to bring a new standard to Corvette certification judging. John Ballard, the appointed Chairman of the SP Judging Committee, has been recruited to help ensure the highest possible standards are warranted for such a prestigious award. There will be a limited amount of certification spaces available each year to help ensure the prominence of the award.

From Joe Pruitt

I would like to personally welcome you to the new world of Sans Pareil. Since my youth, the Corvette has been my passion. I have visited all the major Corvette shows in the eastern US in preparation for this. Since I became involved with the NCH in the late 90’s I vowed to create an exciting event that is interesting, full of fun and rewarding to all of our participants. With the addition of this special show, the NCH is rivaling many other shows on the Corvette show circuit. It is the pinnacle of achievement at the NCH, providing a fresh new venue for non-compromising collectors who have put their heart, soul, time and pocketbook into the presentation of their passion, The Chevrolet Corvette.

In addition, Sans Pareil is adding to the hobby and passion of Corvette ownership. We have placed a high emphasis on organizing the program in an exclusive way. Only NCH team members with the highest level of expertise and knowledge will join the Sans Pareil team. This special journey will be a rewarding one for all participants. As well as gaining a great amount of respect and recognition, participants will add to the value of their Corvette as a participant and/or award winner. Sans Pareil will draw a high attention to detail with all aspects of the event and will be a cut above the rest. We have decided from the start that “without equal” will truly be the call words as we design and implement the program for 2007. The first year of the show will be an important one. It is like a first handshake with a new friend. All NCH team members will have a primary shared mission to make Sans Pareil a very exciting and fun journey for all involved.

Early interest in Sans Pareil has surpassed our expectations. Respected collectors are already requesting information and wish to pre-register upon our first press release. We immediately received entry of two Bloomington Gold winners. This tells us that we have opened up real desire in the Corvette community to participate in this new high honor. Where better to do it than at the National Corvette Homecoming, already full of exciting activities geared toward Corvette enthusiasts. Yes, there are many Corvette shows in the country, but there will be only one Sans Pareil. Now the pinnacle of achievement takes its place back home at the NCH! I look forward to viewing the field of contestants to be considered as “without equal” and your participation among this exclusive group.

Sans Pareil Certification

National Corvette Homecoming has designed three Premium Awards to honor original and restored
Corvettes from 1953 through 2004:

                                         Diamond                        Sapphire                            Ruby

90%                               70%                                 50%

The judging divides the car into five specific sections:

1) Interior,  2) Exterior, 3) Engine Compartment, (4) Underside, (5) Operations

Each of the first four sections are judged as a unit for both “originality” and “condition/cleanliness”.
The Operations section checks a specific item’s performance as originally installed on the vehicle.

Each Corvette starts with 700 points total.
Each of the four sections represents 150 points and the Operations section is 100 points.

Deductions are made as outlined below:

Corvettes with 70 or less points deducted qualify for the Diamond award.
Corvettes with 210 points or less deducted qualify for the Sapphire award.
Corvettes with 350 points or less deducted qualify for the Ruby award.

When the Corvette was introduced to the public I was ten years old. Although Dayton, OH was a big General Motors town, I cannot say that I really remember seeing one until the spring of 1954. At that age, I did not understand why my father viewed this soon to be icon as a waste of money and impractical. Just because there were four in our family and the car was built for two, shows I must have been a little slow on my math skills. I knew one day I would own that car. Some things never change, Dad still has the same opinion of the Corvette and my math is not much sharper. Dad’s continued opinion is probably because at his age he has trouble getting in and out of a Corvette. As I fill one garage and I build another one to keep them in, this is the math that works for me. I did find a way to fulfill my dream.

I originally thought that raising a family made owning a Corvette kind of impractical. Fortunately, I grew out of that belief when we purchased a 1967 roadster in 1976 and joined a local Corvette club. This led to many new friends and opened up the competitive side of the Corvette to Judy and me. We have competed in all types of events, all over the country. We both served as officers in our local club, region and at the national level. I am the current President of the National Council of Corvette Clubs. I still compete in events and will as long as I am able. The Homecoming gives Corvette owners from all over, the opportunity to come together and enjoy the camaraderie that owning a Corvette opens up. Friendships are made that will last a lifetime and some of the finest examples of Corvette care and love will be on display at this year’s event. I hope to see you here.

Sans Pareil will be the final award presentations on Sunday. We will give a special introduction and present the special awards and other unique items to the winners of Sans Pareil. The winners will be interviewed and photographed by professional staff and new content will be added to the NCH website. The new content will be dedicated to highlight the winners and their backgrounds in the Corvette show circuit, as well as pictures of their Corvettes that are “without equal”.
